Your Style Persona

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Style is style is personal style.

Personal style doesn’t involve the intense identity crisis of the embodiment of style…it isn’t who you are, mind and body (and heart and/or soul and/or spirit…)…personal style is about the choices you make.

You may say you don’t care about clothes and style, and maybe you really don’t, but you still have to make a choice every day, often more than once, whether or not you’ll put clothes on and how they fit in your life.

Clothing gives shelter, a physiological need, and clothing on you is style!

Personal style is important. It reflects what you care about, it can have a big impact on the opportunities you get in life, and people use your personal style to understand and, of course, judge you. It’s personal.

HOW YOU CHOOSE

Meet six characters whose approach to style is revealed in that one, vulnerable, honest question: how do I look?

THE HONEST QUESTION: Do I look OK?

You use personal style to validate your belonging to a group of people.

  • Your focus: fitting in

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: selfies, friends & family, opinions & comments on society

  • Heartbreak: you’re considering what you think other people want you to be instead of your own needs

  • Growth: think about what you love, start wearing what you want, and the course of your life will forever be altered by your style

THE HONEST QUESTION: Isn’t this perfect?

You have to wear the best to look your best and better than the rest.

  • Your focus: wearing the best

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: fancy…things, places, & people

  • Heartbreak: your never ending search for the best to the detriment of your health and even at others expense

  • Growth: swap your expert treasure hunting skills from searching for things to own, to finding things that bring you joy

THE HONEST QUESTION: Do I look good enough?

Personal style? You’re too tired, you can’t worry about it, and you can’t even do it anyway.

  • Your focus: using as little effort as possible

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: other people and your interests and hobbies

  • Heartbreak: your limited view of style, not acknowledging the significance of clothing

  • Growth: let go of the fear and bitterness you have around style, and use that energy and the resources you already have so you can learn how to benefit from style instead of carrying it around as baggage

THE HONEST QUESTION: Don’t you love it?

You want what’s new and exciting, and you want everyone else to want what you have.

  • Your focus: fashion

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: fashionable places and things (you could easily be an influencer)

  • Heartbreak: not enjoying what you have because you’re already wanting what’s next, regardless of the cost

  • Growth: learn to be present and enjoy your style, find what it is you’re really looking for and you’ll heal, becoming that girl with style

THE HONEST QUESTION: Does this look right?

My style should be like a work of art.

  • Your focus: excellent design

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: art in all forms, opinions & comments on society, the ornate and unusual

  • Heartbreak: you’re not realizing or utilizing everything style can do for you, and to you

  • Growth: integrate your love of design with what your heart, mind, and body need for complete style nirvana

THE HONEST QUESTION: Is this me?

My personal style is my style.

  • Your focus: the harmony that is style

  • Pictures you post on Instagram: timeless moments

  • Heartbreak: other people’s fear trying to bring you down

  • Growth: more like expansion, it’s sharing your style with the rest of us, bringing more love into the world

ALL OF THE ABOVE

None of us are limited to one of these profiles, but we do have tendencies toward one so why not think about what your approach is, how much time and energy you use, and the value you place on your style.

And take a moment to laugh at your Instagram profile, if you have one…
